The first-ever Family Fitness Fest in South Washington County puts this message into action. All residents are invited to attend and participate in this fun, and energy-charged event. Listen to Carrie Tollefson, Olympian runner, to get inspired to be active and make healthier choices. Students in K-12 will demonstrate what’s cool and new in their Physical Education classes and action-based learning labs. Zumba, yoga, healthy cooking and other community-based fitness and healthy choice opportunities will also be showcased by fitness and health providers in South Washington County. Participants can join in or watch from the sidelines – so wear comfortable clothes. There will be prizes and lots of action. The beginning of the year is the perfect time to join other community members in a unified pledge to fight for healthier kids and communities. Enchanting Community Band Holiday Concert
The music is just wonderful and the musicians are your neighbors and friends from the community! The concert is a Holiday music concert at Cottage Grove Middle School Cafetorium on Tuesday, November 30th at 7:00PM, located at 9775 Indian Blvd. S in Cottage Grove. The concert is a free gift for you and your family!

South Washington County Community Band Musicians
Dust off your instrument and come join the fun! For 18 years, the Community Band of South Washington County has been going strong! All instruments and ages are welcome. For more information, e-mail Band Director Sharon Gunder at SGunder@sowashco.k12.mn.us. Practices are held every Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Cottage Grove Middle School in the band room. Players can join at any time.
SHARON GUNDER grew up in Columbia Heights and is currently a band teacher in the South Washington County School district. She has been actively involved in performing with community bands throughout the Twin Cities since 1986, and plays saxophone. Sharon stepped into the role of interim band director in September to provide direction until Susan Moran’s return.
Birthday Parties at the District Activity Centers
“It was a Blast!” says Eathan after his eight year old birthday party at Park High School Activity Center. The inflatable jumper is one of the favorite items available, but basketball, football, floor hockey, whiffle ball, dodge ball, soccer, hula hoops, jump ropes are just a few of the fun things to do at the three high school activity centers located in District #833.
Two hours is available for your own full size basketball court gym space. Hoops can be lowered for the younger children. You provide the treats/refreshments and you have a wonderful opportunity for a birthday to remember.

Empty Bowls Community Event-Nov 17
It is without a doubt a community event that you don’t want to miss. There will be a variety of music, history and conversation that will enlighten you. The action starts at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the District Program Center in Cottage Grove located at 8400 E. Pt. Douglas Road.
You will start with a bowl of delicious soup and bread served by our area finest community leaders and representatives from the media. After the simple supper, you will see hundreds of handmade bowls that you will be able to choose from and take one home.
There is a silent auction with bowls from artists like Warren McKenzie and local teachers and students. The variety and beauty will surprise you. The fact that they are all donated is such a generous act of kindness.
Speakers on the topic of local and global hunger will hold discussions in the conference room. Bring your questions and come to the event!
